The Arizona Adolescent Health Coalition extends this invitation for you to participate as a presenter at the 2004 conference, Healthy Adolescents for a Healthy Arizona.
Conference is a valuable opportunity to share your expertise and to interact with colleagues in a dynamic exchange of information and ideas. Practitioners, administrators, consultants, and evaluators are sought to share practical knowledge and insights on a variety of strategies and issues impacting adolescents. If you are planning on describing your program, it be replicable.
We are eager to hear of research based programs and new research information.
Presentation Format
Workshop proposals are sought which link to the conference themes. The suggested length of presentations is either 1 or 1 1/2 hours. Longer training sessions will be considered. Presentations that incorporate opportunities for problem-solving and interactive involvement are especially sought.
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals related to any issue, program or strategy that will enhance the capability of people who work with adolescents to be more effective in helping youth be healthy and successful. The following examples are designed to provide suggestions only.
Themes
1. Physical, cognitive, and emotional development Examples: Self-esteem, sexuality, risk behaviors, values, school success, nutrition, physical fitness, asset building.
2. Communication Examples: Relationships, conflict, parenting issues, mentoring.
3. Teens' involvement in their communities Examples: Service learning, volunteerism, peer leadership
4. Effective strategies and programs.
5. Living in an environment with an increase in: substance abuse, fear, violence and high school dropouts.

The Review Process
The review committee will base their evaluation of presentations on four criteria:
1. Relevance to the conference themes.
2. Well-defined focus and learning objectives.
3. Opportunity for participant involvement.
4. Program must be replicable.
Suggestions:
We are looking for someone who could speak about Teens and Driving, the laws for teens and hopefully some proven strategies to prevent teen Motor Vehicle Accidents. This is the leading cause of adolescent mortality. Also wish to have a presentation on Nutrition and physical fittness. Suggestions for staff, program persons on incorporating nutritious anacks as refreshments, and physical activity in all the various programs they are involved with. What is SADD? How to start a chapter? Effectiveness? where are chapters located? Contact person:??? We will offer a full day "Talking with Teens Adult Adolescent Communication" Training as well as the short version of "Talking with Teens about Depression and Suicide" 1/2 day A suggestion has been given for a speaker on Adolescent Brain Development from ASu and I will contact her. Looking for someone to talk about adolescent Sexuality. Re: the movie 13, how teens view sex today, and information on gay and lesbian youth. With rising HIV + and increasing chlamydia and other STD's: Strategies for prevention? Adolescents with Speacial Health Care Needs: Strategies to assist them in their transition to adulthood. Programs? Resources? Web sites? If you know of someone, please give this to them, or give me the information so I may contact them. We will be identifying sponsors and exhibitors and need your assistance.
